Yesterday morning the winners of the John Newbery Medal and the Caldecott Medal were announced at the American Library Association’s (ALA) midwinter conference in Boston. Known for their prestige, the annual awards are presented for literary and artistic contributions respectively.
Rebecca Stead won the Newbery Medal for When You Reach Me. This medal honors the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
Jerry Pinkney won the Randolph Caldecott Medal for The Lion & the Mouse. This medal honors the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
