Admission One: I have not read any of Jen Lancaster’s books.
Admission Two: I did buy ‘Bitter is the New Black’ under the pressure of my peers.
Admission Three: I really want to read it but am saving it for summer.
I imagine it’s a difficult feat for any author to keep the humor tempo at full-tilt throughout an entire book, however, my friends swear by Jen Lancaster’s comic writing abilities. This laugh-out-loud business has happened to me before with the work of Sophie Kinsella and Jancee Dunn, but one book in that vein was plenty.
The ability to make a reader laugh naturally is truly a gift considering the visual image is mentally crafted around the author’s words. In that, author Lancaster seems to be breaking the “funny, but one is enough” mold. Apparently Lancaster has been able to keep pace for five books as of late. For a taste of her humor, check out her bio at Jennsylvania.
Another Author Event of Note
Nathaniel Philbrick, author of ‘The Last Stand’ and ‘Mayflower’ will offer a discussion and signing of his latest work at Borders in Ann Arbor. This May 11, 2010 event is scheduled for 7:00 pm and is a wristband event. Bands will be distributed at this store only upon opening today.
As always call and confirm dates and times before stepping out the door; events are always subject to change. Also, based on what I see out my window right now I would take an umbrella. Yuck.
